Due to an inadequate light source for its type of insert, ‘Cast Again!’ on Jaws is weakly and unevenly lit during gameplay. Rocket City Pinball has designed a solution — a custom 3D printed mount with an integrated Comet star post light, plus a unique custom lightboard cover/interface to safely tap into power.
The custom lightboard cover is designed to allow connection of alligator clips without risk of short-circuiting the pads or clips — the cover has a built-in wall between the solder pads, and walls/grooves on the outside to prevent inadvertent contact of the clips. The cover also shields the board from accidental contact during relocation, and mutes the existing LED to eliminate light pollution under the playfield.
Available colors for the updated light are white, blue, and red — all of which look great with the game’s color scheme. Can’t decide? Some variations include extra lights in different colors so you can swap it out yourself and see which you like best.
This mod is 100% reversible (but why would you?).
Installation is simple:
1) Shut off power to the game.
2) Remove the lightboard next to the insert, by removing the 1/4″ hex head screw.
3) Insert lightboard into the custom lightboard cover, oriented such that the lightboard’s wires exit the cover on the side labeled ‘wires’.
4) Attach alligator clips into/onto the lightboard cover openings on the side labeled ‘clips’. Red/black orientation does not matter.
5) Install new light mount using the original screw.
6) Zip-tie the lightboard cover and/or excess wiring to nearby wire bundle to keep them clear of the flipper mechs.
