Hide that ugly opto sensor and its unsightly wires! Stern decided to position this sensor directly in the player’s line of sight — block it from view with this intricately detailed Empire State Building mod! After all, what’s a King Kong game without the ESB?
This highly detailed model is the produced via extremely lengthy three-color 3D print, including a warm speckled stone color for the structure, transparent gray for the windows, and metallic steel color for the antenna tower. It began as an excellent model created by Miroslav Faist, and has been heavily modified for ideal fit in the game. Due to its height, the building requires extremely precise positioning to ensure clearance when rotating/lifting the playfield for servicing the game. This positioning is established by its unique mounting bracket, whose oddly canted features also accomodate the not-perfectly-level plastics to which it mounts. The mod design required dozens of iterations and modifications to achieve the perfect size, shape, and fit — but it was worth the effort!
NOTE: This mod is not compatible with Stellar Pinball’s Biplane Attack mod; the ESB occupies space within the biplane’s flight envelope. If you have the Biplane Attack mod, you might still consider this simpler purple cover to hide the opto.
Installation is very easy and requires only a Phillips-head screwdriver (magnetic tip preferred). DIY instruction video below.
